The nightlife of Bourbon Street.

My goal for the photo essay was to give my classmates a taste of life in New Orleans and in the Delta. I didn’t exactly have a theme before I took my pictures I just felt that everything would come together after I took them. I feel that just saying the lifestyle of people in both the delta and New Orleans would not be specific enough so I feel that my pictures express the different activities and attractions offered by both New Orleans and the Delta.
Typically, People go to New Orleans to experience the culture and the different things to do on Bourbon Street. I was able to take pictures of so many different things in New Orleans. I love visiting the ever so popular St. Louis Cathedral. The Architectures is amazing since it dates back to 1790. My favorite photo is of the grand marshal dancing in the street. This Marshal walked out of the cathedral with his band and played as a wedding was leaving the cathedral. This is something that many people often don’t get an opportunity to see when they go to New Orleans, they typically just hear about the different traditions of New Orleans style weddings. I also was able to get a shot of Bourbon street from a balcony. Most people would say this is the biggest attraction of new Orleans. I feel that this photo displays the different people that go to visit and what being on Bourbon street is like on a crowded weekend. Driving through Southeastern Louisiana I was able to view the different waterways in which we discussed in Bayou Farewell. Since this area is below sea level and was completely flooded during hurricane Katrina, It is a pretty neat thing to see. Also these waterways help support the people of Southern Louisiana. The water is great for shrimping and all kinds of fishing.
The Delta is well known for many different things such as its history, its farming, and its people, But my favorite thing about the delta is the duck hunting. People come from all over the United States to duck hunt in the delta. The delta obtains a great habitat for ducks to live and is directly in the fly way from the northern territories that ducks live during the hot summer. Two of my best friends live in Holly Bluff, Mississippi and we have a tradition of going hunting every Christmas break. I was lucky to get close enough to about thirty ducks taking flight one late afternoon. Duck hunting is a major attraction in the delta that I enjoy very much.
My theme isn’t architecture of the south, or the different culinary aspects of the Bayou, but it is more so about the experience of New Orleans and the Delta. It can relate to things you should do and see if you are ever in those areas. This is my theme because it relates to so many other sub themes that we have talked about in our class, such as how people in the bayou use water as a way of life, or the different attractions in New Orleans that make it so unique. I feel as if my photo essay shows a lot about what it is like to simply visit New Orleans and the Delta for a short period of time.
